This is Definitely Not Your Traditional Apple Cake Recipe

If you are tired of making the traditional apple pie during this fall season, this might be the cake for you.  It is unique, it looks beautiful and best of all it is delicious.


I can honestly say that I never thought that I would make an apple cake with a meringue topping, however I am glad I did because not only is it such a unique idea, it really is scrumptious. The cake is extremely moist, the apples add such great flavor and the meringue tops it all off, literally 🙂

Ingredients
Makes about 8-10 servings
Cake Batter
1 stick (113g) butter, room temperature
3/4 cup (150g) sugar
4 egg yolks
1/4 cup (60g) sour cream
Grated zest from 1 lemon
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 1/2 tsp (10g) baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups (250g) flour
Apple Filling
4-5 medium apples, peeled and sliced
Juice from half of lemon
1 tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp (30g) flour
Meringue
4 egg whites
3/4 cup (150g) sugar
